A helpful introduction
How the service works
A matching service for the public
We Do Probate helps people find a suitable probate practitioner for the assistance they want. The questionnaire asks for your account of the case, the help you want, the stage reached, any dispute or deadline, and how you would like to fund the work. You can ask to talk your case through. We review these details and clarify any gaps before proposing a suitable practitioner.
All types of probate work
We can help with all types of probate work, including contentious probate, by matching you with a suitable solicitor.
- Grant of probate applications. Applying for probate where there is a will and an executor is acting.
- Letters of administration. Applications where there is no will, or where no named executor is able to act.
- Full estate administration. Valuing and collecting assets, dealing with debts and taxes, preparing estate accounts and distributing the estate.
- Inheritance Tax and estate tax matters. Help with valuations, tax returns, reliefs and correspondence with HMRC.
- Executor and administrator support. Advice on responsibilities, help with particular tasks, or assistance with work already underway.
- Complex and high-value estates. Estates involving businesses, farms, trusts, multiple properties or significant debts.
- Overseas assets and cross-border estates. Coordinating UK probate work with assets or professional advisers overseas.
- Deeds of variation. Advice on changing who inherits from an estate after a death, by agreement.
Contentious probate
- Challenging or defending a will. Disputes about capacity, undue influence, fraud, forgery or how a will was signed.
- Inheritance Act claims. Claims for reasonable financial provision, and responding to claims against an estate.
- Executor and administrator disputes. Concerns about delays, accounts or misuse of assets, including applications to remove or replace a personal representative.
- Beneficiary and estate disputes. Disagreements about entitlements, estate assets or the way an estate is being administered.
- Will interpretation and rectification. Advice where a will is unclear or may contain a drafting error.
- Caveats and disputed grants. Entering or responding to caveats, and disputes over grants of probate or letters of administration.
A solicitor can help with negotiation, mediation and, where needed, court proceedings.
How a practitioner will be selected
Matching will take account of jurisdiction, the kind of help required, any known complications and the experience and availability of practitioners in the participating panel. Funding requirements, the arrangements a practitioner is willing to consider, budget and appointment preferences will also be considered. An introduction cannot guarantee a particular quotation, outcome or completion date.
The service will match within its participating panel. It will not represent a comparison of every probate practitioner in the market.
Free matching, clearly explained fees
The matching service will be free for members of the public. Participating practitioners will pay an agreed introduction fee. Any relevant financial interest and fee arrangement will be explained before an introduction is agreed.
The practitioner will provide a quotation for the legal work. Their quotation should identify what is included, any VAT, court fees and other charges.
You decide whether to instruct
Completing the questionnaire does not appoint an executor, instruct a practitioner or authorise an application. The practitioner will carry out their own assessment and checks, agree the work with you and provide their own engagement terms, regulatory information and complaints procedure.
You can choose whether to accept an introduction and whether to go ahead after receiving a quotation.
About We Do Probate
We Do Probate is an introduction and matching service. The chosen practitioner will be responsible for the legal work. The matching business and the practitioner providing legal services will be identified separately.
